Shaw noticed that his hall was at a level that was lower by about 12 inches and like he said later, "The description ruthlessly ambitious person touched the cord somewhere as I was ambitious but not ruthless. I didn't have the killer instinct. I'd develop cold feet at the last moment. I was this way as a player too. I'd come across a block; or would choke just before the final round."
Shaw had a good enough business but his targets were always lower than he could easily achieve. He was perceived as a little laidback and this style had percolated to the lowest in the staff. The middle level executives believed that the boss was not ambitious enough and in fact, some had found themselves jobs seeing future in other organizations.
Less than four months later, he went public and his issue fetched Rs 45 crore! A year later, they announced bonus for the shareholders!
To get more details about this case study, I spoke to his private secretary with his consent. She explained, "I can trace the change in the boss easily. It started in March. I remember it because he gave me my first deadline.
This year everything was ready before the time.
